I’ve been behind the camera since 2001 and shot more than 2,000 scenes, so when the girl who made Nancy Wheeler a household name signs on to open the door of the most cursed hotel room in horror, I pay attention. This is not a safe prestige cameo. This is Natalia choosing the dark room on purpose.

Per Variety’s Jack Dunn exclusive (Nov. 6, 2026), Dyer stars and Wood supports; Cusack and Jackson reprise their original roles as secondary characters while terms are negotiated. Håfström co-wrote with Mark Verheiden. Producers: Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Bluestone’s Richard Saperstein, Spyglass Media Group and Frank Mayor. Bluestone and FilmNation co-finance; FilmNation takes the project to AFM. Casting director: John Papsidera. Shoot: Q1 2027. The A.V. Club, ScreenRant and World of Reel all amplified the same confirmation.

What the 1408 sequel actually is

The 2007 film followed author Michael Enslin (Cusack) into room 1408 at New York’s Dolphin Hotel, with Samuel L. Jackson as manager Gerald Olin. It made about $132 million worldwide on a $25 million budget. Cusack told People in 2025 it was the one film he’d do a sequel for, because “most movies suck” today (Variety). Plot details for the sequel remain under wraps. Character details for Dyer and Wood are not disclosed.
