I’ve been behind the camera since 2001 and shot more than 2,000 scenes, and the scariest audio cue I know isn’t a jump scare. It’s a name called from empty grass.

Cida Moraes, the Big Brother Brasil 2 housemate, is viral again on a Persian-language X post retelling the June 2002 night she heard her sister calling from the garden — about 45 minutes after her sister Glória had died of cancer, while Cida was still quarantined in the house. Brazilian outlets archived the story the same day in 2002, and Cida has retold it in later interviews (UOL 2002, Exame, KHOROUS_).

What happened in the BBB house

On June 3, 2002, Cida was sunbathing when she heard someone call her name. Housemate Thaís claimed it was her; Cida said the voice sounded like her sister. Production later told her Glória had died that day. Presenter Pedro Bial said the voice moment was about 45 minutes after the death. Cida chose to stay in the house and finished third (Exame).

NICO’S TAKE

"Nico

Reality TV sells fights. This one sold a goodbye.

Whether you call it grief, coincidence or something else, Cida heard a name on empty lawn and found out her sister was gone. Twenty-four years later the clip still travels because it is the one BBB moment cameras can’t manufacture on cue.

My take: leave the woman her story. The viral edit is enough.

FAQ

Who is Cida from BBB?

Cida Moraes was a contestant on Big Brother Brasil 2 in 2002. She finished third.

Did she really hear her dead sister?

Contemporary Brazilian coverage and later interviews say she heard a voice she believed was her sister Glória’s around the time of Glória’s death, before production informed her. That is her account, reported since 2002.
