Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in the Fifty Shades of Grey tie scene (1:41). The other 9 scenes from the film are further down the page.

Fifty Shades of Grey took the most talked-about bestseller of its decade and put it in cinemas for Valentine’s Day 2015. Dakota Johnson plays Anastasia Steele, a shy English literature student who stands in for her roommate at an interview with the young billionaire Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). He is intrigued, she is out of her depth, and before long he is handing her a contract that spells out exactly what he wants to do to her. I have put every sex and nude scene from the film on this page: 10 clips in HD, each with its length and what actually happens, from Ana’s first night with Christian to the tie, the ice, the blindfold and the Red Room. Dakota Johnson carries every one of them. For the sequels and the rest of her career, see my Dakota Johnson nude scenes page.

The Tie Scene: Dakota Johnson Tied to Christian Grey’s Bed (1:41)

Christian’s bedroom, Seattle | With: Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan

Ana has just climbed out of the bath, and Christian has decided it is time for a first lesson. He walks to the dresser, opens a drawer full of neatly rolled ties, picks a grey one, and loops it round her wrists. Then he fastens her hands to the bed and tells her to keep still. Dakota Johnson spends most of the next minute and a half topless on teal sheets with her arms stretched over her head, while Jamie Dornan works his way down her body with his mouth. The room is all daylight and pale glass, nothing like the dark Red Room that comes later, and that is why it works: it looks like a real bedroom on a real morning. Johnson plays it with her eyes closed and a smile she cannot keep off her face. That grey tie became the symbol of the whole film, and this is the scene it came from.

Why put this one first? Because it is the scene most people mean when they talk about Fifty Shades of Grey. It is the first time the film gives you the kink and the romance at once, it is shot in bright daylight instead of shadows, and it is the moment you see that Ana is enjoying this game far more than she expected to.

Every Other Sex Scene in Fifty Shades of Grey

The film has more sex than most studio releases and all of it is between Ana and Christian, so this is really the story of one relationship told in ten scenes. Here is the rest, in the order it plays in the film.

The First Time: Ana and Christian in His Bedroom (2:54)

Fifty Shades of Grey (2015) | With: Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan

Ana has just admitted she is a virgin, and Christian, who was planning to talk her through a contract, puts the paperwork on hold. He leads her to his bedroom in the dark, undresses her slowly, and lays her across the bed. The scene is lit by little more than a lamp, so you get skin in the shadows: Johnson’s back as her dress comes off, her body stretched out on dark teal sheets, Dornan pulling his shirt off at the foot of the bed. Then it is hands and faces and very little talking. Sam Taylor-Johnson keeps it tender rather than kinky on purpose, because everything that comes afterwards is measured against this night.
