Marc Blucas plays David Lamont, a ruthless literary agent who moves into a new apartment and starts receiving packages of photos and DVDs that show someone has been watching his every move. Appleby plays Audrey, the mysterious and beautiful neighbour on the third floor, and their shower scene is the warmest moment in a cold, paranoid film.

Her most naked scene on screen, and it starts quietly. Audrey sits in a tiled bathroom in a white tank top, clutching a bundle of clothes and looking like she might change her mind. Then it cuts straight to the shower: David (Marc Blucas) pulls her in under the water, and the rest is close-ups of wet hair, hands on backs and long kisses against the glass, with steam fogging up the curtain. A short, hot minute in an otherwise very creepy film.

Kelly is a bartender in Vermont whose sister Alison was murdered a year earlier. When she hears crime novelist Graydon Jennings (Chris Potter) talk about his new book, the killing in it sounds just like her sister’s, so she asks him to help her solve the case. The love scene here is one of Kelly’s dreams, and it is the reason this TV movie is still searched for today.

Shapiro used to work on The Bachelor, and UnREAL is her poison-pen letter to it: Rachel is brilliant at manipulating contestants for the cameras and terrible at running her own life. Appleby led all four seasons and directed her first episode, Casualty, in 2016. Rachel’s love life swings between her ex Jeremy (Josh Kelly), a camera operator on the show, and season one’s bachelor Adam Cromwell (Freddie Stroma).

From Princess, the second-to-last episode of season one. Rachel has just left Adam’s suite, and Jeremy (Josh Kelly) drives her to his log cabin. She heads straight for the shower, and it is shot almost entirely through fogged-up glass: Rachel alone under the water at first, eyes closed, then Jeremy stepping in behind her, his arms round her, a slow kiss. Soft, quiet and blurry in the best way, with a lot going on behind her eyes.

The red lingerie, season 4 episode 3 (2:01)

The longest clip on this page and the best-looking one. A candlelit room, Rachel in a red lace bra, hair long and loose, and a man in a dark suit who keeps moving closer. They circle each other for two minutes, her smiling and teasing, him not quite sure who is in charge, and the camera stays on her face and that red lace. No nudity, all tension, and Appleby has never looked better.

I kept this page to scenes that are worth watching and that belong on Scandal Planet. Who Is Shiri Appleby?

Shiri Appleby was born in December 1978 and grew up in Calabasas, California. Her mother was born in Israel and is of Moroccan Jewish descent, and her father is Canadian. She started out in TV commercials as a small kid, studied English at the University of Southern California, and left after landing the lead in Roswell, where she played Liz Parker from 1999 to 2002.

After Roswell she worked steadily in film and TV: Havoc (2005), Charlie Wilson’s War (2007) as Charlie Wilson’s press secretary, the intern Daria Wade in the last season of ER, Cate Cassidy in Life Unexpected, Chicago Fire, and Natalia in Girls. Her biggest role came as Rachel Goldberg in UnREAL (2015–2018), which she also directed, and she has since directed episodes of shows including Roswell, New Mexico. She is married to the chef and restaurateur Jon Shook, and they have a daughter and a son.
