Bonds, Behind the Scenes

Bonds brought Sarah Stephens back in front of their camera and then let us stay in the room. She stands against a white studio wall in peach intimates, one hand in her hair, shoulders easy, and talks through the shoot like someone who has done this a hundred times and still looks glad to be there. Lauv, The Other

Lauv wrote “The Other” in the middle of a first real heartbreak, and the official video, directed by Tobias Nathan, hands that feeling to Sarah Stephens. She is the woman in the frame. The picture that stays is almost a silhouette: two profiles, a breath before a kiss, a scrap of blue light behind them. It is her face in the dark, calm and close. The whole video treats her like the person the song cannot stop looking at.

The Witch

In Robert Eggers’ The Witch, Sarah Stephens is the young witch in the red hood. Laced bodice, dark skirt, that steady look from the doorway of the hut, the trees close around her. She does not rush the frame. She just stands there and lets the woods do the rest.

Yellow Jack Premiere

Yellow Jack is the short where Sarah Stephens plays the Captain, and the premiere arrivals on 14 June 2021 catch her on the way in. The film is titled for her, Sammy Allsop, Frankie and Bridget: a city sidewalk, black evening looks, a car in the foreground, and Sarah in the middle of the people she arrived with. She looks ready for the room.

Bonds Classics, Sunday Style

May 2015, and Sunday Style gave the Bonds Classics portraits a whole sitting. Bonds had called the former ambassadors back for #BONDS100, a hundred years of the brand, photographed by Steven Chee. Miranda Kerr, Elyse Taylor, Kelly Gale, Rachael Taylor, Ruby Rose, Samara Weaving, Jack Vanderhart, and Sarah Stephens. Her frame is the one here. Black leather jacket, face clear, a plain studio wall, and that quiet confidence she brings to a still camera. Sunday Style ran the portraits on 11 May 2015. This one feels like her even on its own.
