Maya Hawke Jokes About Set Sex as Mckenna Grace Says “I Don’t Do Nudity”: Inside Cosmo’s Hunger Games Covers

I’ve been behind the camera since 2001 and shot more than 2,000 scenes, so I know what happens when you put three actresses in cut-out bodysuits on one bed: everybody finds out where her line is. Cosmopolitan just did exactly that with the new girls of The Hunger Games, and the answers could not be more different.

Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak and Mckenna Grace are Cosmopolitan’s Winter 2026 cover stars, three separate covers shot by the photographer Richard Kern to sell The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, in theaters Nov. 20. Cosmopolitan put the covers and three long interviews online on Monday, Nov. 2, 2026 (Cosmopolitan), and X did the rest: Film Updates posted the group shots with the line “Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak and Mckenna Grace stun for Cosmopolitan,” and Pop Crave and Cosmopolitan itself followed within minutes.

The looks: all three in matching cut-out bodysuits by Lucila Safdie with white socks, lying on a bed and balancing hardcovers on their heads. On the solo covers, Maya wears a red Prada dress with her bra on show, Whitney poses topless in Chanel pants with her arm across her chest, and Mckenna wears Miu Miu and holds her dog, Scooby Doo.

The Film Updates post had about 646,000 views and 11,300 likes when we checked at about 9 p.m. Bangkok time on Nov. 2, 2026, the biggest celebrity post from the major pop accounts in the previous 12 hours. Its solo posts for Mckenna (74,000 views) and Maya (47,000) and Pop Crave’s group post (41,000) added more. The photos are the versions shared on X and by Cosmopolitan, re-hosted with our watermark.

Maya Hawke on set: “We have to have sex right now”

Maya, 28, plays Wiress, the brilliant District 3 victor, and she was the most fun to read. She shot Sunrise on the Reaping back-to-back with the romantic comedy One Night Only, whose premise is that, by law, everyone gets only one night to figure out love. Her running joke on the Hunger Games set, she told Cosmopolitan, was to turn to the actor playing her fellow victor Beetee and say: “Beetee, we have to have sex right now. We’ve got two hours, let’s go!” (Cosmopolitan)

Then she got serious about it, sort of: “Government control in your bed? Horrible. … I want to be able to explore love on my terms. Bedtime TV, sex, kissing, and love. I mean, who would I be without these things? It would be punishment and torture.”

A few more things she told the magazine: an ex-boyfriend once called her an “AMW,” short for “actress, model, whatever”; she feels most confident in Milan working with Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons; she married the singer-songwriter Christian Lee Hutson on Valentine’s Day and chose not to sell the wedding photos; and she calls herself “a hopeless romantic.”

Mckenna Grace draws her line: “I definitely don’t do nudity”

Mckenna, 20, plays the District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner and her twin sister, Merrilee. She has been acting since she was 5, and she was the one who answered the question everybody at Scandal Planet wanted asked. Which roles would she turn down? “At this point, I definitely don’t do nudity or very hypersexual things. I respect anybody who can, but it’s terrifying to me. I don’t know if that’ll ever change. It’s not like I only do wholesome things… but my dream is to try and be a Disney princess someday” (Cosmopolitan).

She is also openly in love. She calls her boyfriend, her Regretting You co-star Mason Thames, “my best friend,” says “your girl is happy,” and has no plans to hide it: “I don’t see the point in not celebrating who you’re in love with.” She plays Daphne in Netflix’s upcoming Scooby-Doo: Origins, which explains the dog’s name.

Whitney Peak goes topless for her cover

Whitney, 23, plays Lenore Dove Baird, Haymitch Abernathy’s great love. She broke out as Zoya Lott in HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot, played the teenage Becca in Hocus Pocus 2 and has a partnership with Chanel. She told Cosmopolitan she is “not super online” and doesn’t see herself as a public figure, and that she first met Rachel Zegler, who played Lucy Gray Baird in the last Hunger Games film, by chance on the street two months ago (Cosmopolitan). Her cover is the boldest of the three: bare-chested, one arm across her breasts, Chanel pants and belt.

NICO’S TAKE
Nico Grey

Three covers, one photographer, three completely different answers to the same camera. That’s the real story here, and it’s the most honest thing a magazine has printed this month.

Maya is the woman who’s already done it. She walked topless through a forest in her own video, stripped for an art film, and now jokes about set sex in Cosmo like it’s small talk. Whitney is the girl testing the water: topless, but with the arm firmly in place. And Mckenna said no, clearly, on the record.

My take, after 2,000+ scenes: an actress who knows exactly where her line is gives you better work than one who doesn’t. Mckenna’s no is as strong as Maya’s yes. My bet is the internet will try to make her change it. Don’t hold your breath.

One more thing. Richard Kern isn’t a name you hire by accident. He’s a New York photographer with decades of underground film and nude photography behind him, and Cosmopolitan put him on its Hunger Games issue. Read into that what you like. I know I did.

Maya Hawke’s boldest scenes

The Cosmo shoot is the tease. These are the moments where Maya actually takes it off. Rolling Stone called her Thérèse video, the first single from her 2022 album Moss, “orgy-themed” (Rolling Stone). The Kathy Acker short is Aïda Ruilova’s seven-minute film about the writer exploring her identity “through sex and writing” (IMDb), and Mainstream is Gia Coppola’s 2020 satire, with Maya as Frankie opposite Andrew Garfield (Wikipedia).
