Luana Piovani Declares a ‘Biquinaço’ and Finally Posts Herself ‘Pretty in a Bikini’

Luana Piovani posted a run of bikini photos on Wednesday, Nov. 4, and opened the caption with “BIQUINAÇO DECRETADO” (roughly, “bikini-fest declared”), Revista Quem reports. The 50-year-old actress said the shots were taken in Curaçao, Capri and Fernando de Noronha, and she used them to celebrate the result of the U.S. midterm elections. Within hours Brazil had turned it into the meme of the week: she had finally managed to post herself “bonita de biquíni”.

She paid off a joke Brazil has been quoting for seven years, and that’s a different level of timing.

The post everyone is quoting

The photos came from three trips, per iG Gente: a black bikini with a heart detail, two green sets, a brown and white stripe and a colourful strapless number, shot while she walked into the sea and posed on the sand. “Vem mais aí. Bora ‘bikinar’, povo! Tá liberado!” she added (“More is coming. Let’s go bikini, people! It’s allowed!”), according to Quem, and she asked her followers for a compliment in the comments.

The caption was political, and she didn’t hide it. “EUA tentaram interferir nas eleições brasileiras e, no final, nossas eleições que influenciaram a deles!!” she wrote, calling Donald Trump “o Doritão americano” and signing off “SOBERANIA BRASILEIRA!”, as Vanity Brasil and NaTelinha quoted it. Folha’s F5 framed it simply: she celebrated the Democrats’ win and “decreed a biquinaço”.

On X, one post sums up how Brazil read it. Entertainment account @matheuscaseca wrote that she “finally managed to post a pretty bikini photo of herself”, and the post passed a million views in a day:

Why “pretty in a bikini” is a meme in Brazil

It goes back to a 2019 interview. Luana, who has lived in Portugal since 2018, said being a citizen in Brazil was exhausting: she wanted to post her own photos, but there was always a cause to post about first, from the Amazon to the dolphins to the sharks, per Quem‘s transcript. “Meu Deus do céu, não tô conseguindo postar eu bonita de biquíni,” she said (“My God, I can’t manage to post myself pretty in a bikini”). The line went viral and never left.

That’s why the comments under the new post read like a finish line. “Finally she can put up her bikini photo,” one follower wrote, per Quem. “Brazil finally letting you post a bikini photo, but the fight doesn’t stop!!” said another.

Who is Luana Piovani?

She’s a São Paulo-born actress, host and theatre producer who became one of Brazil’s biggest TV faces in the 1990s, from “Quatro por Quatro” to Globo’s 1998 miniseries “Labirinto”. She played Domitila de Castro in “O Quinto dos Infernos”, hosted MTV Brasil shows and starred in “A Mulher Invisível” and “Guerra dos Sexos”.
