Ingrid Bolsø Berdal is a Norwegian actress, born on March 2, 1980 in Utøy, Nord-Trøndelag. She won the Amanda Award, Norway’s national film award, for Best Actress for the slasher film Cold Prey (2006), and is best known abroad as Armistice in Westworld and Atalanta in Hercules.

The best Armistice scene by a mile. She lies back on a white plastic-covered table in the lab under the park, topless and perfectly still, while a technician in goggles and red rubber gloves airbrushes the dark red snake tattoo across her chest and stomach one stencil at a time. Her eyes are closed, her face is calm, and the hum of the lab does all the talking. The cuts away to Hector (Rodrigo Santoro) being checked over nearby only make you want the camera back on her. Cold, clinical and weirdly beautiful.

Armistice wakes up in the lab, season 1 episode 10 (0:49)

This is the moment Armistice joins Maeve’s breakout. She stands naked in the glass-walled lab with the snake tattoo covering her from shoulder to hip, seen from behind and then face on, while Maeve (Thandiwe Newton) and a shirtless Hector size up the room. Then the outlaw takes over: she pins a lab technician by the collar and the throat with one hand while Maeve asks the questions. Topless for almost the whole clip, and the most dangerous she ever looks.

Washing in the river, season 1 episode 4 (0:36)

Our first proper look at Armistice. Out in the desert canyon country, she wades into a wide, sunlit river in nothing but her trousers, long blonde hair hanging wet down her back and the snake tattoo winding up her side, and splashes the water over her face and arms. The Man in Black (Ed Harris) watches from the reeds with Lawrence (Clifton Collins Jr.) at his side, and you understand straight away why the show’s most feared bandit is worth a detour.

In a dim study lit by little wall lamps, Sonja takes a late-night call with a cigarette in one hand and the receiver in the other, in a black satin evening gown, bare shoulders glowing in the low light. A man in evening dress waits close behind her, and the scene plays out in long, quiet close-ups of her face as she decides how much to say. Slow, smoky and very elegant.

As Atalanta, the only woman in Hercules’ band of mercenaries, she spends the film in a cropped leather top, arm guards and a short battle skirt with a longbow on her back. This clip opens with her drawing an arrow right next to Dwayne Johnson, then she runs straight into the fight with her hair flying. Not a nude scene, but it is the outfit everybody remembers from the film, and she looks every bit the warrior.

Who Is Ingrid Bolsø Berdal?

Ingrid Bolsø Berdal comes from Utøy in central Norway and trained at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. She started out as a singer and on stage at Det Norske Teatret in Oslo, where she played in Hair, Ivanov and later her own monologue Frøken Else (2011).
