Inde Navarrette Roasts Shane Gillis on SNL With a ‘Little Whore Outfit’ Line, Then a Penis-Destroying Robot

I’ve been behind the camera since 2001 and shot more than 2,000 scenes, and the hardest line on any set is the one you get exactly one take at, live, with no edit to save you. Inde Navarrette had one of those on Saturday night in Studio 8H. She smiled, said three words, let them hang, and the whole room went with her.

Inde Navarrette hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time on Halloween night, Oct. 31, 2026, and used her monologue to take a shot at Shane Gillis. Talking about getting fit for her Marvel role as Rogue, she said: “Every morning I put on my little whore outfit and I hit the gym,” per Variety and USA Today. It was a direct callback to Gillis’ Oct. 10 monologue, when he joked that women dress like “whores” at the gym, a line that got him slammed as sexist (NBC News).

She wasn’t done. The camera cut to her real-life boyfriend, musician Nick Aiello, sitting in the audience duct-taped and gagged to a chair, a gag on her killer-girlfriend role in Obsession. And later in the night she starred in “The Inventor’s Wife,” a digital short about a widow whose late husband’s cute little robot turns out to be a “Penis Destroyer.” Variety called it “one of the better ‘SNL’ digital shorts in quite some time.”

What she actually said

She opened on the movie that made her famous. “You probably know me from the movie ‘Obsession.’ And a lot of people ask me if I’m anything like my character Nikki and I’m like, ‘No… no, no, don’t do that!’” she joked, sliding into Nikki’s voice, per Variety. “But the thing is, is I’m nothing like my character in ‘Obsession.’ Like, my boyfriend is here tonight to support me and we have such a chill relationship, right?”

Cut to Nick Aiello, strapped to his seat with duct tape and gagged. USA Today noted he “still managed to give his girlfriend two thumbs up.”

Then the line everybody clipped. “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m going to be in a Marvel movie,” she said, per Variety. “And I know it’s really important for Marvel that you get really fit, so I’ve been working out a lot, so every morning I put on my little whore outfit and I hit the gym.” USA Today says she let it linger with a smile, “drawing howls from the Studio 8H audience.”

The rest of the monologue was a Halloween parade, per USA Today: Marcello Hernández came out as a “sexy TSA agent” and sang about it, Jeremy Culhane showed up as Wolverine hoping it would count as an X-Men audition, and Grace Reiter came out as a wooden bird with a fake Kelly Clarkson. Gracie Abrams was the musical guest, her second time on the show. It was the first new episode after a two-week break that followed Gillis’ hosting night.

Why “little whore outfit” hit so hard

Three weeks earlier, on Oct. 10, Shane Gillis hosted and told a bit about women at the gym dressing like “whores” in neon, “artificial bait”-colored shorts (Variety). Critics called it misogynistic (NBC News). Dan Levy said “more men need to be standing up” (CBC News), and USA Today reports former cast members Ego Nwodim and Cecily Strong also criticized it, while SNL UK’s Weekend Update anchor Ania Magliano mocked it too. CNN reported that SNL and NBC stayed quiet as the backlash grew.

So the show never answered it with a statement. It answered it with a 25-year-old horror star in her first monologue. Variety‘s Marlow Stern framed her as “more than up for the occasion, unlike a certain stand-up comedian.” As of publication we haven’t seen a public reply from Gillis to her line.

“The Inventor’s Wife”: the PD-44 sketch, explained

Per Variety: Inde plays a widow giving a eulogy for her “eccentric” inventor husband, who “loved his inventions and he… liked his wife.” Back home, she finds his last gift, a cute, Wall-E-style robot called PD-44, and they become best friends, though she can’t work out what PD is for.

Six years later she’s ready to date again and brings home Tom Oakland (Ben Marshall) from a dating app. PD turns into a giant killer robot, rips off Tom’s penis and throws it at the moon. “PD stands for Penis Destroyer?!” she screams, before the robot lasers Tom until he explodes and covers her in blood. Her last line: “He did love me… My husband loved me after all!”

From my side of the camera, that ending only works because she plays it straight. No winking. Blood on her face, total joy in her eyes, the same off-balance love she sold in Obsession. Same weapon, different genre.

From Obsession to Rogue: who is Inde Navarrette?

Inde Navarrette is 25 (USA Today). Before this year she was best known as Sarah Cushing on Superman & Lois (Cosmopolitan). Then came Curry Barker’s horror film Obsession, where she plays Nikki, a girl bound by a wish to love a shy music-store clerk more than anyone in the world. It hit US theaters on May 15, 2026, and Variety calls it “the year’s breakout horror hit.” Her bed scene and lap make-out from the film are the most-watched clips on her Scandal Planet hub.

In August, Marvel made it official: she’ll play Rogue in the MCU’s new X-Men, announced at D23 on Aug. 14 alongside Adam Driver as Mister Sinister and Christopher Abbott as Professor X (AP). The film is dated for May 5, 2028 (Variety). That’s the role she was “getting fit” for in the monologue. Funny timing: Halloween weekend also had Zendaya dressed as Halle Berry at the 2000 X-Men premiere.

Is Inde Navarrette dating anyone? Meet Nick Aiello

Yes, and she said so on live TV. The “boyfriend” in the chair is Nick Aiello, a singer-songwriter who put out his first solo EP, ILO, in February 2026 (Just Jared). The two were first seen on a late-night taco run in LA in May, then holding hands outside Chateau Marmont on Aug. 16, two days after her X-Men casting (People (via Yahoo)), and at the US Open opening night on Aug. 30 (Just Jared). Cosmopolitan reported he’s close friends with Joshua Bassett. Before Saturday, outlets called him her “rumored” boyfriend. Now she’s introduced him to the SNL audience herself, in duct tape.
