Sidney Is Back: Neve Campbell Confirms Scream 8 Return — “I’ll Be in It”
I’ve been behind the camera since 2001 and shot more than 2,000 scenes, and I’ve learned that the best lines on any set are the short ones. Neve Campbell just gave Hollywood four words, “I’ll be in it,” and the whole Scream fandom lost its mind.

Sidney Prescott is coming back. Neve Campbell has confirmed she will return for Scream 8, three decades after she first picked up the phone to Ghostface. She said it on Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, in an interview with the Associated Press while promoting season 2 of Netflix’s spy series Black Doves (AP). Listing what she has coming up, she said: “‘Scream 8.’ That’s in the pipeline as well.” Pressed for details, she laughed: “You know I can’t tell you anything about Scream 8. I’ll be in it” (Variety).
That was enough. Posts about Neve and Scream 8 on X went from a handful a day to close to 1,000 an hour within a few hours, and more than 5,000 went up by 9 p.m. Bangkok time on Nov. 3, by our count. ScreenTime‘s post alone passed 16,000 views, and Variety, Deadline, TheWrap and Fangoria all ran the story within hours (Deadline, TheWrap, Fangoria).
What she actually said, and what is still missing
Four words, not a press release. Deadline says Scream 8 is still in development and doesn’t have a director yet. Spyglass Media is developing it with Paramount distributing, and Deadline reported back in March 2026 that Lilla and Nora Zuckerman, the showrunners of Peacock’s Poker Face, are writing the script (Deadline). TheWrap adds that Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original and directed Scream 7, is stepping back to a producer role, so the new film will have a new director (TheWrap). There’s no release date, no plot and no other confirmed cast.
Deadline also notes that Sidney’s surname is now Evans: in Scream 7 she is married, living a quiet life, and fighting for her daughter Tatum, played by Isabel May, when a new Ghostface comes to town (Deadline, Fangoria). Courteney Cox and Matthew Lillard were back too.

Here’s the part the trades are too polite to say: Scream doesn’t work without her, and everybody in that boardroom now knows it.
In 2022 she walked away from Scream VI because the offer didn’t match what she had built. The movie got made without her. Then she came back for Scream 7, reportedly for $7 million, and it had the biggest opening the franchise ever had. That isn’t nostalgia. That’s leverage.
My take, after 2,000+ scenes: the actor who can say no is the only one who ever gets paid. Neve said no once, and now she gets to say “I’ll be in it” with a laugh and let the studio sweat the details. My bet? Scream 8 gets built around Sidney and Tatum, and Neve’s number goes up again.

Why Sidney matters: the money and the pay fight
Campbell has starred in six of the seven Scream movies. She sat out 2023’s Scream VI after a contract dispute and told Variety in 2022 that “the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise” (Variety). She later told CBS Mornings she “didn’t think I could live with myself” if she had taken it.
The comeback paid off for everybody. According to Variety, Scream 7 opened to $97.2 million worldwide, the biggest opening in the franchise’s 30 years, and became the highest-grossing installment with $208 million worldwide against a $45 million budget (Variety). Spyglass and Paramount started developing Scream 8 almost right away.

The other Neve: the nude scenes that broke her own rule
For years Neve kept a no-nudity clause in her contracts. Then came James Toback’s When Will I Be Loved (2004), which opens with her character, Vera Barrie, in a long nude shower scene. “I used to have an issue or do have an issue with nudity in the films if I feel it has nothing to do with the film itself,” she told CBS News at the time. “A lot of this is about sexuality and it put my character in a raw place in the beginning of the film.” The scene was shot on day one: “Four guys in the shower with me. Somewhat intimidating, but after two minutes, it’s been bared and there is nothing to hide” (CBS News). Variety’s review said the role marked “the steady march out of her teen persona into complex adult material” (Variety).
This is the scene that killed Neve Campbell’s no-nudity clause. When Will I Be Loved (2004) opens on Vera Barrie fully nude in her New York shower, soaping up, turning her back to the camera and pleasuring herself with the shower head, before the clip jumps to her couch kiss with Joelle Carter.

Three years later she went topless again in Oliver Parker’s London comedy I Really Hate My Job (2007), playing Abi, a waitress and wannabe actress stuck in a scruffy Soho restaurant for one long night.
Neve Campbell drops the good-girl act in I Really Hate My Job (2007). As Abi, a waitress who wants to be an actress, she strolls through a scruffy Soho restaurant completely naked, glass of red wine in hand, then stands topless at the bar chatting with the staff like it’s just another shift.

Neve in the 90s: the shoots that made her a sex symbol
While Sidney was screaming, Neve was everywhere: an FHM cover in 1998 sold as “Hot thing! The irresistible rise of Neve Campbell,” a 1997 Rolling Stone shoot in a sheer camisole, a black-slip pool-table session and a David LaChapelle shoot for Detour. Here’s the best of it, plus her later work with Rankin.
